The Fine Young Cannibals headed by lead singer Roland Gift were formed in Birmingham in 1984. Bassist David Steele and guitarist Andy Cox made up the band. Their style was a mix of ska and new wave.

They achieved 5 UK top 10s, and 9 UK top 40s with their singles and 1 UK number 1 album (The Raw and the Cooked) with 2 albums in the UK top 10s (and 1 other reached No11).
